Water resource management is a global challenge, particularly in arid regions, where equitable access to clean water must be ensured while addressing scarcity, pollution, and sustainability issues. This paper highlights the challenges of managing water resources, specifically on water issues in southern Algeria and the associated management constraints. The study employs remote sensing techniques using Landsat satellite images from 1990 to 2020 to analyze urban and agricultural land changes. Based on current investigations, it integrates the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model with the satellite data to develop an original model and forecast multiple management scenarios (Improved, standardized, optimal, sustainable) from 2015 to 2050. The analysis includes projections of land change in the study region, global water demand, and overall return flow for different future scenarios. The study's results highlight constraints and issues across all scenarios. They emphasize the necessity of implementing sustainable management policies, including strategies to reduce water loss and establish specific consumption standards. It also highlights the importance of adopting new irrigation techniques and promoting the reuse of purified water for irrigation purposes.
