The transpiration (T) of Vitis vinifera L. 'Tempranillo' grapevines was measured in a weighing lysimeter near Albacete, Spain, during 2012. The soil surface in the lysimeter was covered with a waterproof canvas (to minimize soil evaporation) from post-flowering until after harvest. Water was applied every 6-7 days at night to replace loss of water from the lysimeter. The weighing system allowed the measurement of T in the lysimeter with a resolution of 0.03 mm water depth and weight was measured 96 times per day (once every 15 minutes). Maximum transpiration always occurred on the second day after irrigation where the crop transpiration coefficient (K-ct) reached 0.50. The minimum value of K-ct (0.17) was reached on the days just before irrigation. K-ct values obtained are lower that reported by Allen et al. (1998) of crop coefficient during the mid-season growth-stage (0.35 vs. 0.65).
