In Tunisia, the experience of building small lakes began in the late 1960s. The hill reservoirs constructed contain tens of thousands to 1 million m(3) of water collected from small catchment areas of a few hectares to a few km(2). These lakes, which are located in regions of average annual rainfall greater than 250 mm, are able to regulate water supply and therefore likely to provide consumers with opportunities for development flows. This study presents the results of monitoring of 26 hill reservoirs for 15 years. Several issues are addressed: water and sediment discharges on the annual and event scale, siltation and life duration of the reservoirs.
