2016 HALOPHYTIC AND SALT-TOLERANT FEEDSTUFFS: IMPACTS ON NUTRITION, PHYSIOLOGY AND REPRODUCTION OF LIVESTOCK 2016 null(卷), null(期), (60-78页)
This chapter is a broad overview of halophytic and salt tolerant feedstuffs (mainly forages from the extensive rangelands including alpine and semi desert areas) that support the pastoral livestock enterprise. Attention is focused on the productivity (as reflected in edible biomass and seasonal availability) and nutritive value of the various forages and browse. The value of the plant base to livestock is clear but the rich and varied fauna ranging from rodents to camelids and antelope-like animals must be acknowledged. The region varies from tropical north (near the Equator in Brazil) to the arid regions of southern Argentina and Chile and the high Andes.
