Performance of two forage associations, triticale-berseem and triticale-common vetch, in a semi-arid environment in Tunisia In Tunisia, there is a chronic nutrition deficiency in forage. Barley and oats, alone or associated with common vetch, represent 85 % of cultivated forage. Triticale is slowly progressing but it has a relatively low crude protein content. A trial was carried out at the experimental station of the 1 Higher School of Agriculture of Kef (north-western Tunisia) in order to compare the production level, annual distribution and crude protein content of 3 forage associations combining: triticale and common vetch (T-V) and triticale and berseem (Egyptian clover) (T-B) planted at 3 different ratios (25, 50 and 75 %). Statistically, there were significant differences between years and the varying ratio of planted species. The association of T25%-V75% yielded the highest results in terms of production (12.9 t DM/ha on average over the 2-year trial) and crude protein levels (19.2 % DM). Balance was higher for associations including 75 % legumes at the time of planting.
