This study assesses naturally occurring radioactive material in surface soils of the Oued Beht watershed (Morocco) and quantifies associated radiological hazards near a fluorite mine. Twelve composite topsoil samples from near-mine and background sites were analysed by gamma-ray spectrometry. Activity concentrations of K-40, Ra-226 and Th-232 range from 74.98-2004, 6.20-23.83 and 15.48-136.50 Bq kg(-1) (means: 1101.99, 15.64 and 69.81 Bq kg(-1)). Derived indices, including radium equivalent activity (< 370 Bq kg(-1)) and outdoor annual effective dose (< 1 mSv yr(-1)), remain within guideline limits; only one site shows a marginal internal hazard index exceedance (1.022). Near-mine soils show localized 234 mPa enrichment.
