Water-induced soil erosion remains a critical environmental issue in the Mediterranean and semi-arid regions, where fragile ecosystems face significant threats due to climate change, anthropogenic pressures, and unsustainable land management practices. This review analyzed 87 publications on soil erosion, retrieved from the Scopus database, covering the period from 2002 to 2023. The analysis examined factors such as countries, publication years, subject areas, affiliations, keywords, and leading authors. VOSviewer software and bibliometric analysis techniques were used for the study. The findings reveal that the semi-arid region has a greater volume of research compared to the Mediterranean region, with Italy and India emerging as major contributors. Environmental Science, Earth and Planetary Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences were the most prominent subject areas. Analysis of keyword co-occurrence highlighted the central role of "soil erosion," "RUSLE," and "GIS," reflecting the widespread application of geospatial tools for erosion assessment. The Mediterranean region emphasized themes related to hydrological modeling and agricultural impacts, while the semi-arid region focused on climate-driven dynamics and conservation strategies. Notable affiliations included the Universit & agrave; degli Studi di Padova and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The significance of this bibliometric analysis on water soil erosion lies in its potential to provide valuable insights into key research trends, such as the most studied regions, dominant methodologies used, and emerging focus areas like climate change impacts. It highlights influential publications, authors, and collaborations, offering a clear view of the knowledge network within the field. These insights help researchers identify unexplored topics, refine methodologies, and foster strategic collaborations. For land and water managers, the analysis offers actionable knowledge on effective erosion control measures, regional vulnerabilities, and data-driven strategies for sustainable resource management and policy development.
