Eight species of Rosa L. that can grow normally in the cold and arid regions of the plateau were studied for their application potential, to make a preliminary evaluation of the application potential of the eight species of Rosa L. in the cold and arid regions of the plateau. Starting from March 2023, this study was carried out on Rosa willmottiae Hemsl., R. omeiensis Rolfe, R. xanthina Lindl. 'Plena', R. xanthina f. normalis Rehder & E.H.Wilson, R. sweginzowii Koehne, R. rugosa Thunb., and R. CVs. growing in the campus of Qinghai University through the observation of climate and evaluation of cold tolerance, to judge their application potential in the cold and arid regions of the plateau and expand the scope of their application in the urban landscape greening of the cold and arid areas of the plateau. The results of the study show that: R. willmottiae has a longer ornamental period, but poorer cold tolerance, and has the potential for application in warmer areas; R. omeiensis has a short ornamental period, but stronger cold tolerance, and has a good potential for application in cold areas; c and R. xanthina f. normalis ornamental period in general, but more cold-tolerant, has the potential for application in cold regions; R. sweginzowii ornamental period is short and less cold-tolerant, the application of the potential of the poorer; R. rugosa has a long ornamental period but is less cold-tolerant and has average application potential; R. rugosa 'Zi Zhi' and R. CVs. are both long ornamental but weakly cold-tolerant roses, and have good application potential in warmer regions.
