The Kachchh Basin in western India represents a climatically sensitive arid to semi-arid zone that has undergone significant environmental transformations during the Holocene. This review synthesizes multi-proxy records from fluvial, coastal, and Rann sediment archives to reconstruct past climatic fluctuations and their wider implications. The sedimentary archives reveal distinct phases of monsoonal intensification and weakening, with significant environmental transitions aligned with globally recognized climate events such as the 8200 yr BP event, the 4200 yr BP aridification, the Medieval Warm Period, and the Little Ice Age. Early Holocene records indicate enhanced ISM activity, leading to high sedimentation and marine transgressions, while the Middle to Late Holocene is characterized by fluctuating aridity, fluvial incision, and landscape reorganization. These climatic shifts appear closely linked to external forcings such as solar variability, latitudinal migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and North Atlantic climate dynamics. Despite advances in dating methods and proxy analyses, establishing high-resolution chronologies and synchronizing regional climatic events in Kachchh with global records remains challenging due to the tectonically active nature of the region and related geomorphological changes such as rapid erosion and landscape reorganization. By identifying spatialtemporal mismatches among records and highlighting critical data gaps, this synthesis provides a framework for future high-resolution, multidisciplinary research to refine Holocene climate data and assess human-climate interactions in western India.
