Herbicide safeners alleviate herbicide toxicity while preserving weed-control efficacy in common buckwheat. A three-year field experiment was performed to measure the effects of quizalofop-P-ethyl (QPE) alone or in combination with gibberellin or brassinolide on soil enzyme activity and yield components in common buckwheat. The herbicide-brassinolide application yielded the greatest increases in soil enzyme activity and yield components without sacrificing weed control efficacy. It is recommended for use in common buckwheat cultivation in the Loess Plateau. (c) 2025 Crop Science Society of China and Institute of Crop Science, CAAS.
