By tracing historical records from the city of Areia, Paraiba (PB), this study explores the region's economic development and its relationship with natural resources. Humans, as a species, interact with their environment, reshaping it through their actions. Within this line of investigation and using bibliographic research and documentary analysis, a historical survey was carried out regarding the water issue and the vision regarding natural resources, including through facts contained in legal proceedings involving the expropriation of lands in the area of the Saulo Maia Dam, which are being processed in the sole court of Areia-PB: process no. 0801091-89.2017.8.15.0071 and process no. 0000424-93.2004.815.0071. When examining history and documents, it can be seen that natural resources were delegated to the plan of their economic value, with biodiversity being suppressed from the narratives.
