Tillage practices and fertilizer-Nitrogen (N) can affect soil pH and subsequently micronutrient uptake of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The main objectives of this study were to determine tillage and fertilizer-N effects on winter wheat micronutrient dynamics. Treatment arrangement, in this long-term (45-year) study, was a split-split-plot. Crop rotation phases were on the main plot, tillage treatments [conventional (CT), reduced (RT), and no (NT)] in split plot, and fertilizer-N rate [0, 45, 90, and 134 kg N ha(-1)] in the split-split-plot. Results showed that applying up to 90 kg N ha(-1) significantly increased uptake of copper (Cu), iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), and Zinc (Zn) in both winter wheat grain and stover, but rarely when N was above 90 kg N ha(-1). Grain Cu and Zn were greater with NT compared with CT. Winter wheat Cu and Zn uptake had a positive linear relationship with N uptake with R-2 = 0.75-0.83. Winter wheat K and P uptake had a positive linear relationship with Cu and Zn up to a maximum Cu uptake of about 0.05 kg ha(-1) and Zn uptake of 0.29 kg ha(-1). Winter wheat Fe and Mn uptake had a positive linear relationship with N, phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) up to a maximum Fe uptake of about 0.77-0.87 kg ha(-1) and Mn uptake of about 0.50 kg ha(-1). We concluded that fertilizer-N application (>45 kg ha(-1)) improved micronutrient uptake in both CT and NT, but greater uptake with NT than CT in dryland wheat production.
