Soil properties determine the resources for the growth of different plant species; these properties change over time and as a result a process of ecological succession can be triggered. In sites with saline soils and where changes in salinity levels occur over time and space, different salt concentrations offer different opportunities for colonization and development of vegetation; however, information on the process of ecological succession in halophyte communities is scarce. With this information, it could be possible to identify plant-soil relationships and contribute to the understanding of plant succession, degradation processes, and restoration ecology in saline soils.
