The genus Bolboceras Kirby, 1819 (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae: Bolboceratinae) consists of 25 described species, 18 of which are known from India (Paulian 1941; Krikken 2011, 2013a, b; Nikolajev et al. 2016; Gupta & Chandra 2016a, b; Gupta et al. 2020; Kalawate & Hillert 2018, 2021). Krikken (2013a) divided the genus into five species groups: Bolboceras nigricans Westwood, 1848; B. inaequale Westwood, 1848; B. quadridens (Fabricius, 1781); B. transversale Westwood, 1848 and B. perpunctatum Krikken, 2013. After Krikken's revisionary works (2013a, b), six more species (all from the B. nigricans species group) have been described from different parts of India (Gupta & Chandra 2016a, b; Gupta et al. 2020; Kalawate & Hillert 2018, 2021). Krikken (2013b) included three species in the inaequale species group: B. inaequale Westwood, 1848 (India: Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal; Bangladesh), B. orissicum Krikken, 2013 (India: Odisha), and B. duplicatum Krikken, 2013 (southeast India). Bolboceras inaequale species group is characterised by a set of three pronotal concavities behind and between a transversely arranged double pair of antediscal tubercles (two discoparamedian and two discolateral tubercles), with the discomedian impression being enclosed all around (basin-like) (Krikken 2013b). While working on a collection of dung beetles from Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in the desert area of Kachchh district, Gujarat state, India, we discovered four specimens of a new species of Bolboceras, belonging to the B. inaequale species group. This paper aims to describe, illustrate and diagnose Bolboceras krikkeni Gupta, Ghosh, Das & Chandra, new species as the fourth species in the B. inaequale species group. The specimens were dry and pinned with attached locality labels. After studying external features, the abdomen of the male specimen was detached. The aedeagus was extracted and placed in 10% KOH for 30 minutes to remove soft tissues from the sclerotised structures. The specimens were examined using a Nikon SMZ-25 stereo zoom microscope, and the images were taken through the microscope using the software NIS-Elements BR 5.10.00. The specimens bear a red printed label: "Bolboceras krikkeni sp. nov., HOLOTYPE or PARATYPE, Devanshu Gupta, Joyjit Ghosh, Priyanka Das & Kailash Chandra Det. 2022". Exact label data are cited for specimens. "/" indicates a new line in the label. Morphological terminology used in the description follows Krikken (2013b). The type material is deposited at the National Zoological Collections of Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata (NZSI).
