In this paper, we study the land desertification status and distribution in YLN region of Tibet and analyzed the driving factors using Landsat satellite image of 2000-2009 and some observational materials. The result show that, in 2009, total desertified land area is 4253km(2) which included 1388km(2) sandy type desertified land and 2864km(2) gritty type desertified land. In research area, distribution of desertified land was uneven. The area of sandy land in the western was more than that of the eastern. From 2000 to 2009, sandy land area increased 17 km(2), the average annual growth rate of 0.44%. Desertification in the study area was the result of combination of natural and social factors. The influence of wind and evaporation were the biggest factor in nature, and the influence of human behavior was the most in social.
