Surface runoff is one of the most common forms of soil degradation in Northeast Brazil. The objective of this study was to compare the occurrence of erosive processes in two distinct scenarios in the semi- arid region of Pernambuco, based on a systemic approach, by using a micro- scale perspective with the aid of geoprocessing techniques. The analysis of these scenarios revealed that the appearance of the erosive features occurs mainly due to the low vegetation density, the precipitation concentrated in a short period and the anthropic activities. The technique used in this study revealed to be effective in assessing environmental stability and an important tool for proposals of mitigating measures to the impacts of erosive processes.
