Deficit irrigation is a strategy to increase water productivity, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. With the objective of evaluating the effect of deficit irrigation (60, 80 and 100 of evapotranspiration (ET) on the yield and productivity of water in winter crops, field work was established using an experimental design of plots divided into random blocks with four repetitions. The ET percentages correspond to main plot (60, 80 and 100 %) under a drip irrigation system and a control with flood irrigation, the winter crops: barley (Hordeum vulgare L.); canola (Brassica napus L.); triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack); oats (Avena sativa L.), and safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) as subplots. The results show that the biomass yield of the species and water productivity (PA) depend on deficit irrigation. With the 80 and 100 % of ET, the highest yields of green and dry forage were obtained in barley, triticale and oats respectively. The highest water productivity corresponds to the treatments with 60 and 80 % ET (4 y 3.75 kg m(-3)). Deficit irrigation at 60 % ET allows maintaining forage potential and water productivity in winter crops.
