URBANIZATION IN AREAS OF PERMANENT WATER COURSE PRESERVATION IN THE BRAZILIAN SEMI-ARID: THE CASE OF THE CITY OF GUANAMBI/BA AND

The relationship between urban expansion and environmental protection has proven to be very conflicting and unbalanced, with the reproduction of socio-environmental and urban aggravating factors. The advancement of urban areas into fragile natural habitats has joined international efforts to improve harmony between society and nature, such as the Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs of the United Nations. This research aimed to analyze the occupation of built land in watercourse APPs in the city of Guanambi-BA (2008 and 2019). The study area comprises the main drainages of the city of Guanambi-BA river Carna & iacute;ba de Dentro and Riacho Bel & eacute;m. Remote sensing, the Geographic Information System-GIS, fieldwork and legal input were used as techniques for temporal analysis of the occupation soil in the city of Guanambi-BA, in 2008 and 2019 according to the following criteria: time interval close to 10 years; indications of preliminary studies of disordered expansion; and the availability of high spatial resolution images. In general, there was an increase of 160.5% (from 2,543.92 m2 to 6,629.41 m(2)) of buildings in APP areas, caused by disorderly growth. Furthermore, an inefficiency in the applicability of legal rules.
