Drylands are the largest biome on Earth, and most of this area exists in developing countries. Pakistan has a predominantly arid and semi-arid climate and has substantial drylands which are subject to various hazards of climate change. Agriculture in Pakistan is signifcantly affected by short-term climate variability and long-term climate change. Periods of severe droughts followed by devastating foods are common in the country and have contributed to the low crop yields. Development of climate-resilient crop varieties, appropriate agronomic practices, interventions in the irrigation system, crop diversifcation, and conservation of water resources can contribute to the betterment of dryland agriculture, thus helping to uplift food and feed demands in the country.
