The life of the sertanejo is full of legends and myths, strong themes in the Northeastern culture. Music can express the reality of a people and the work of Luiz Gonzaga is an inexhaustible source of information about customs and the relationship between man and nature. Ethnobiology is essentially the study of knowledge and conceptualizations developed by any society regarding biology, and Ethnozoology is concerned with the knowledge and conceptualizations of societies in relation to animals. This study aimed to analyze the human-animal interactions in the semiarid region portrayed through the narratives expressed in art. Legends, myths, beliefs, superstitions, stories and fantasies reveal aspects of popular culture and the imagination in their relationships with animals. These cultural expressions are transmitted orally, constituting a biocultural heritage that interferes positively or negatively in the conservation of species.
