The evolving energy transitions needs that demand skilled workforce calls for the development of institutional and human capacities through concerted action in education and skills building.
SRI’s Targeted Antigen Loaded Liposomes (TALL) — a treatment that expands the benefits of immunotherapy such as check-point inhibitors — has been granted Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA).,As a result, SRI’s future strategic partners can gain tax credits for qualified clinical trials and potentially receive market exclusivity for a period of seven years after the drug’s approval, among other benefits.
N4 Pharma, the specialist pharmaceutical company developing Nuvec®, a novel delivery system designed to carry nucleotides to be developed as cancer treatments and vaccines, has entered into a research agreement with SRI to combine Nuvec with SRl’s proprietary FOX Three Molecular Guidance System™ (MGS) with the aim of co-marketing the combined technology.,The companies will collaborate to perform research to conjugate SRl’s MGS system to Nuvec in order to increase intracellular delivery to specific cells. On the back of the combined technology, N4 Pharma and SRI will develop and pursue new business opportunities.
SRI has been selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to deliver advanced technology for its recently launched Multiobjective Engineering and Testing of ALloy Structures (METALS) program.,DARPA METALS aims to break today’s one-material-per-part paradigm, which can lead to vulnerabilities and reduced life when highly engineered components experience austere environments. The goal of the four-year program is to develop technologies that treat material selection — particularly metallic alloys — as a continuous variable in design that can be tailored across a single part.
With a surface area of about 140 million square miles, the vastness of Earth’s oceans is hard to convey, but as a point of reference, consider that it would take an area nearly 50 times the landmass of the United States to plaster the oceans over. Given this immensity, most of what happens out in the oceans remains unknown.,To help civilian researchers, commercial entities, and governments understand maritime happenings, SRI researchers have created a novel kind of ocean drifter. Known as a Persistent Environmental Awareness Reporting and Location (PEARL) drifter, thousands of these devices are deployed to float far and wide, acquiring a plethora of useful data to send back to shore. By forming a sprawling coverage network, PEARL drifters can pick out proverbial needles in the oceanic haystack, enhancing numerous applications in environmental monitoring and national security.
Many colleges and universities have expanded virtual learning since COVID-19, but studies show that online learning doesn’t work equally well across a diverse group of students. In fact, it can result in lower pass rates, increase feelings of isolation, and exacerbate existing inequities.,“Research has shown that students generally experience reduced success rates in online courses, and suggests that disparities between different groups sometimes get wider,” said Rebecca Griffiths, a senior principal researcher and co-director of the Digital Learning and Technology Policy program at SRI. “Given the extreme change in the future of education, it is becoming more critical to figure out how to improve and innovate in virtual education environments.”
