The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Hachinohe City are delighted to announce the signing of a Basic Agreement of Cooperation. This Agreement represents a commitment to collaboratively address climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Under the Agreement, Hachinohe City will provide IGES and partners with valuable data pertaining to the health and other benefits of climate change policies. IGES will then conduct a thorough analysis of which policies can maximise those benefits. The insights derived from that analysis will help IGES develop reports that recommend how climate policies can improve the health and well-being of residents in Hachinohe City. Much of this work will be carried out under a project funded by the Wellcome trust, a global charitable foundation established in 1936 that supports science to solve urgent health issues.Central to this Agreement is the facilitation of workshops and international visits by IGES, in which Hachinohe City will actively participate. These activities are designed to foster exchange and develop case studies with local authorities both in Japan and internationally. This collaborative framework aims to elevate and share the success stories of Hachinohe City across Japan and globally. In forging this partnership, Hachinohe City and IGES reaffirm their commitment to spearheading initiatives that pave the way for a sustainable future. Our joint efforts will be underpinned by continuous cooperation and collaboration, demonstrating our dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
