MoorNet Final Conference 2025

Peatlands are unique ecosystems that not only provide habitat for a wide range of specialized plant and animal species, but also serve as significant natural carbon stores and climate regulators. In light of the extensive drainage and use of peatland areas in Germany, the R&D project "MoorNet" supports the implementation of the German Federal Government's National Peatland Protection Strategy. The aim is to advance the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of peatlands through research, networking, and communication.

At the MoorNet Final Conference 2025, results and approaches from the research and development project will be presented. The event will also offer space to discuss further developments and identify additional needs for action. Key topics will include overcoming implementation barriers, funding issues, and the need for communication strategies and networking concepts to strengthen and accelerate the rewetting of peatlands.

In addition, we aim to place the topic within a broader political and thematic context and to actively foster dialogue between experts from various fields. Current and relevant research projects will also be integrated into the program to broaden perspectives on this shared challenge and to highlight potential synergies.

The conference will take place from 11 to 13 November 2025 at the Umweltforum in Berlin. On the second day of the event, a half-day excursion to an ongoing peatland rewetting project is planned.
