The Australian Government is investing $1.4 million to support the continuation of the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) Control and Innovation program (CCIP).

The CCIP delivers tools and research to enhance Australia’s world-leading approach to COTS management.

It supports the COTS Control Program. It has increased the programs efficiency. It has also improved its approach to targeted surveillance and management of outbreaks.

The funding will provide more targeted research. It will increase Australia’s capacity to predict, detect, and respond to future COTS outbreaks.

Managing COTS outbreaks is one of the most effective interventions to protect coral and enhance the Reef’s resilience.

This investment is funded through the Reef Trust. The Reef Trust is Australia’s investment program for the Great Barrier Reef.
